MOZAMBIQUE

Mozambique is just larger than Zambia with a population of about 19 million people.The country is divided into nine Provinces. SOWERS is now working in four of the Provinces – Zambezia, Niassa, Nampula and Sofala. There are many languages in Mozambique and so far manuals and counselling booklets are in five of these languages. SOWERS is in the process of being registered in Mozambique and the work is being led by a steering Committee and a National Coordinator Pastor Macheso with the assistance of Ibrahim, Manuel and Daniel.

 WORKER PROFILES

JOAO - Pastor Joao lives with his wife Estere and family at Mulombo in Northern Western Zambezia Province.  They are grandparents with three children of their own and an adopted daughter.  Pastor Joao coordinates the work in Mozambique and is a Level 5 Sower in training. He is a school teacher and suffered considerably during the eleven years of war in Mozambique.  He graduated from a Bible College in Malawi in 1992 and is an ordained Pastor with the Evangelical Church of Mozambique. Currently he is working part time with SOWERS but it is anticipated he will be working in a full time capacity shortly.

Pastor Joao is an excellent teacher and has trained a number of teams and planted at least seven churches since being trained at Level 4 in 1997. He has translated a number of SOWERS manuals and digests into Lomwe and Portuguese and is currently working on the Portuguese Level 3 Manual. He is well liked and respected and is a dedicated and gifted man and a very hard worker. He uses a motor bike, a gift from a foundation in USA, to visit and encourage teams and Sowers.   

ALFREDO - Pastor Alfredo lives with his wife Eliza and seven children in a rural area in the south of the Niassa Province of Mozambique. He supports his family through farming. He graduated from Bible College in Malawi in 1997 and is an ordained minister with the Evangelical Church of Mozambique.

Pastor Alfredo works part time with SOWERS in Mozambique and coordinates the work in the Niassa Province.  He is a very enthusiastic person and has been trained up to Level 4.  The teams in his area are developing well and many new churches have been planted in the area over the past five years. He has recently been given a small motor bike to use as he encourages churches, teams and Sowers.
